Where this award goes beyond, or sits at, the NES floor.
An employee who works a roster under which they may be rostered on any day of the week and who is regularly rostered on Sundays and public holidays is a shiftworker for the NES and receives a 5th week of annual leave (clause 21.2).
Standard 17.5% on minimum hourly rate. Shift workers receive the GREATER OF 17.5% or the shift penalty they would have earned during the leave. Run the numbers in the annual leave loading calculator.
Optional 4-week cycle of 152 ordinary hours worked on a rostered day off basis (clause 13.1(b)(ii)), giving up to 12 rostered days off over each 12-month period (clause 13.2).
The Cleaning Services Award sets your pay rates, but your paid leave runs on the National Employment Standards. Work out 4 weeks of holidays with the annual leave calculator, and your 10 days of paid sick and carer's leave with the personal leave calculator. To confirm which award applies to you and how it lifts entitlements above the NES floor, read our guide to modern awards.
The Cleaning Services Award (MA000022) is the common name for the Cleaning Services Award 2020. Industries, work types and exclusions are taken from the Fair Work Ombudsman summary.
Notes & exclusions. The only award in this set that pays part-time employees more per hour than full-time employees: clause 10.2 adds a 15% part-time allowance to every ordinary hour, which lifts the Level 1 part-time rate to $31.14 against $27.08 full-time and carries through to Saturday (165%), Sunday (215%) and public holidays (265%). The trade-off is that a part-timer can be rostered up to 7.6 hours a day and 38 hours a week without overtime. The allowance does not apply to overtime or to the non-rotating midnight-to-8am shift, where full-time and part-time are both 130%. Shift loadings are 115% for a Monday to Friday shift starting before 6am or finishing after 6pm and 130% for a non-rotating shift finishing after midnight and no later than 8am. Minimum engagement is set by floor area rather than a flat number of hours (clause 13.5): 1 hour at a stand-alone site under 300 square metres, 2 hours up to 2,000, 3 hours up to 5,000 and 4 hours at 5,000 or more. Junior rates apply only to employees of shopping trolley collection contractors. Covers contract cleaning only, so cleaners employed directly by the site occupier usually fall under that occupier's award, and retail trolley collection sits under the General Retail Industry Award instead.
