Privacy policy.

Australian Leave Calculator runs the calculations in your browser. We do not sell personal information, and we collect the minimum data needed to run a fast, ad-light, Australian website.

Last updated: 5 May 2026.

This policy explains how Leave Calculator Australia (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information in connection with the Australian Leave Calculator website (the “Site”). It is written to align with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. The short version

  • The calculators run entirely in your browser. We do not send the figures you type (salary, hours, tenure, dates) to our servers.
  • We do not require sign-up, do not host user accounts, and do not store profiles.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
  • We use privacy-respecting analytics to count anonymous page views and improve the Site.
  • You can contact us to access, correct or request deletion of any personal information we hold about you.

2. Personal information we collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

We only receive personal information when you choose to send it to us, for example by:

  • Emailing us, or using the contact form, to ask a question or report a correction.
  • Subscribing to a newsletter (if and when one is offered).

In those cases, we collect the information you provide (name, email, message body).

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, our hosting provider and analytics tools may collect:

  • Approximate location (country/state level) derived from your IP address.
  • Device type, operating system, browser, and screen size.
  • The page you arrived from (referrer) and the pages you view on the Site.
  • Aggregated, non-identifying performance metrics (e.g. Core Web Vitals).

2.3 Information we do NOT collect

  • The numbers you enter into a calculator (salary, hours worked, leave balances). All maths runs in your browser.
  • Tax File Numbers, bank details, or government identifiers. Never enter those into the Site.
  • Audio, video, or biometric data.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of essential cookies to remember your preferences (for example, the last state you selected) and to support privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies for cross-site tracking.

You can disable cookies in your browser at any time. The calculators will continue to work without them.

4. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, secure and maintain the Site.
  • Understand which calculators and guides are useful, so we can improve them.
  • Respond to your questions, corrections, or feedback.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

5. Disclosure to third parties

We disclose personal information only to:

  • Service providers who help us run the Site (hosting, content delivery, analytics, email). These providers are bound by confidentiality and processing agreements.
  • Law enforcement or regulators where required by Australian law.
  • A purchaser, in the event of a sale or restructure of the business, on the same terms as this policy.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

6. Overseas storage

Some of our service providers (for example, our website host and analytics provider) may store data in data centres outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers offer privacy protections comparable to the APPs.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures, including HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable hosting providers. No internet service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect the limited information we hold.

8. Retention

  • Anonymous analytics: retained in aggregated form, typically up to 14 months.
  • Email correspondence: retained for as long as needed to handle your enquiry, then archived or deleted in line with our records policy.
  • Server access logs: typically retained 30 to 90 days for security and abuse prevention.

9. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act and the APPs you have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you.
  • Access that information.
  • Ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete information we are not required by law to keep.
  • Make a privacy complaint.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact page. We aim to respond within 30 days.

10. Complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or by phone on 1300 363 992.

11. Children

The Site is intended for adult Australian workers, employers and HR professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site evolves or laws change. The current version is always the one published at this URL. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.

13. Contact

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact our privacy contact via the contact page.
