Timber Industry Award 2020 (MA000071) covers harvesting and forestry management, sawmilling and timber processing, panel products and veneer, wood and timber furniture manufacturing and related industries. Common roles include felling and log processing, sawing, dressing, drying and machining, board, panel and veneer manufacture, cabinet making, turning, carving and upholstery. Annual leave loading here is 17.5% for the General Timber and Wood and Timber Furniture streams but <strong>20%</strong> for anyone in the Pulp and Paper stream (clause 28.6(a)), a stream set by the employer's sector under clause 4.2(f) rather than by job title. Day workers get that loading flat, with no comparison test; shiftworkers get the greater of the loading or the shift allowances they would have been paid for that shift. The other figure people miss is the shiftworker public holiday rate, which is <strong>200%</strong> and not the 250% a day worker gets, because clause 27.3(d) substitutes the weekend and public holiday rate for the shift loading instead of adding to it. That flows through to casuals: a casual day worker is on 275% but a casual shiftworker on 225%. Saturday is a flat 150% for rostered ordinary hours (clause 27.3(c)(i)), while Saturday work that is not ordinary hours is 150% for the first 2 hours then 200%, with a 3 hour minimum (clause 27.1(a)). Level 1 in the two timber streams is a below-NMW entry rate. Forestry planting sits under the Silviculture Award and long-haul cartage under Road Transport, not here (clause 5.1).

FT/PT employees are paid 200% of the base hourly rate (2.00x) for Sunday work. Casuals receive a rate that varies by penalty under this award, so check the coverage notes. This is one of the higher Sunday rates in the modern-award system.

FT/PT employees who work on a gazetted public holiday are paid 250% of the base hourly rate (2.50x). Casuals receive 275% (the FT rate plus the 25% casual loading). Employees who don't work the holiday receive their ordinary day's pay if it would otherwise have been a working day.

Standard full-time employees get 4 weeks of paid annual leave per year under the NES. A 7 day shiftworker who is regularly rostered to work on Sundays and public holidays gets a 5th week of annual leave (clause 28.2, confirmed at clause 28.9(d)). Do not confuse this with "continuous work" at clause 27.3(a)(iv), a separate 6 consecutive day test that governs shift and overtime rates only. Yes. Full rostered day off machinery at clauses 18.1 to 18.6. Ordinary hours average 38 a week, worked as 38 in 1 week, 76 in 2, 114 in 3 or 152 in 4 (clause 17.2(a)). The 19 day month at clause 18.5(b) works 8 ordinary hours on 19 days in each 4 week cycle and holds over 0.4 hours of pay for each day at work. Four weeks written notice of the RDO date (clause 18.2), up to 5 days may be accumulated (clause 18.3), and the RDO must not coincide with a public holiday (clause 18.4(a)(i)). RDOs are paid days off, distinct from annual leave; they exist to balance ordinary hours over a fixed period. If you are paid out on termination, accrued RDO time is typically included.

Yes. Under this award, evening work shift finishing after 6.00pm and at or before midnight attracts 115% of the base hourly rate (1.15x); night-shift work attracts 115% of the base hourly rate (1.15x); permanent night shift attracts 130% of the base hourly rate (1.30x).
