Medical Practitioners Award.

Medical Practitioners Award 2020 (MA000031) covers health, hospitals. Common roles include hospital medical practice, resident and registrar duties, specialist and career medical practice, on-call and recall duty. Occupational award for salaried doctors in hospitals, day-procedure centres and community health services. It excludes GPs in private practice and partners, medical receptionists and clerks, allied health (physios, OTs) and nurses. Penalties vary by classification; the rates shown here use the career and senior-doctor structure (evening 112.5%, night 125%, Saturday 150%, Sunday 175%, public holiday 250%). Doctors in training instead have per-occasion night penalties and weekend work paid as overtime. On-call and recall attract separate allowances. Weekend shiftworkers get a 5th week of leave and the higher of 17.5% or the shift penalty as leave loading.

Full-time and part-time employees are paid 150% of the base hourly rate (1.50x) for working on Saturday. Casuals receive 175% (the FT rate plus the 25% casual loading).

FT/PT employees are paid 175% of the base hourly rate (1.75x) for Sunday work. Casuals receive 200% (the FT rate plus the 25% casual loading).

FT/PT employees who work on a gazetted public holiday are paid 250% of the base hourly rate (2.50x). Casuals receive 275% (the FT rate plus the 25% casual loading). Employees who don't work the holiday receive their ordinary day's pay if it would otherwise have been a working day.

Standard full-time employees get 4 weeks of paid annual leave per year under the NES. A medical practitioner required to work shifts that include weekends receives a 5th week of annual leave (clause 22.2). 25% on top of the base hourly rate, in lieu of paid annual leave, paid personal leave and notice entitlements. Casual loading is added to the FT/PT rate when a casual works any of the penalty-rate hours above (Saturday, Sunday, public holiday, evening, night).

Yes. Doctors in training and career medical practitioners accrue one additional rostered day off per calendar month, up to 12 days a year (clause 13.1(c)(iii)). RDOs are paid days off, distinct from annual leave; they exist to balance ordinary hours over a fixed period. If you are paid out on termination, accrued RDO time is typically included.

Yes. Under this award, evening work after 6pm Mon-Fri attracts 112.5% of the base hourly rate (1.13x); night-shift work attracts 125% of the base hourly rate (1.25x). Casuals receive an additional 25% casual loading on top of these penalty rates.
